Will That Coupon Scan???

So, I reading about how allot of people had troubles using the senior coupons at Rite Aid, yesterday, because the cashiers was telling them that they were manufacturer coupons and you can’t use “two” coupons for the same product.  However, all “store” coupons always say they are manufacturer coupons but according to Rite Aid, CVS and Walgreens Coupon Policy, you can you one store coupon and one manufacturer coupon on the same item.  If you scroll down to the bottom of my blog, you will find the Coupon Policy for each store.

Do not let a cashier get you frustrated and make you want to quit saving money and couponing.  I don’t care how mild mannered Clark Kent you are when a cashier tells you can’t use a coupon, you must ask to speak to a manger.  If you have been previously denied to use a coupon at a particular store then you better have printed off the store’s Coupon Policy.  You must be nice and cordial but firm.  You went through allot of trouble to get a plan together, cut out the coupons and should be determined to use the coupons. If all else fail…then go to a different store!

If you are ever wondering why coupons beep because allot of cashier will refuse to manually enter a coupon if it beeps then you should learn a little about UPC (universal product code).

The main reason a coupon will beep is because the coupon is coded incorrectly for the product you are buying.  For example, if you buy a Zyrtec 70 count and the $4 off Zyrtec 20 count or more coupon beeps, it is most likely not coded correctly.

  1.  The first digit “5” is always the same on all modern coupons.
  2. The next five digits is the manufacture number which should always match the manufacturer number on the product.
  3. The next three numbers is the family code number which ensures that you are buying a particular product.  For example, you see family code of 600 which is more like you can buy any Pantene product or if you see a family code 628 which could mean that you can only use the coupon on a Pantene styler.
  4. The next two number is coding for the coupon value.
  5. The final number is just a check digit.

There are some coupons that are notorious for always beeping like the Revlon nail enamel coupons. To save myself some time because you know time is money, I have the QSeer app (it’s free) on my cellphone which quickly decodes a coupon for me. I use the QSeer app to scan the coupon and the app will tell you some amazing things like – the coupon is not coded correctly, coupon is valid from this date to this date, the BOGO coupon you only need to buy one product, etc.

I do not scan every coupon that I use but I do use it when I am unsure how the coupon will act.  I don’t use UPC info to be shady but to be informed.  I don’t use $3 Tide coupons on Charmin bath tissue and I have never advocated that on my blog.  However, I am not the Coupon Police and how you live your life will eventually catch up with you.

If coupon says that it is good for Tide pods 16 count or higher and it is coded incorrectly, I will save myself a headache and time by going to coupon friendly store.
