Haggen Foods to Replace Albertsons in San Diego

1Several months ago, it was announced that Albertsons had bought out Safeway but there was a hold up due to antitrust concerns.  However, according to Coupons In The News, last Friday while everyone was out Christmas shopping, 168 stores were bought by Haggen Foods which has a similar look and feel to Whole Foods.

It looks like all the Albertsons Grocery Stores in San Diego will be converted to Haggen Foods and they will for the time being let Vons continue to be a Vons without converting it to an Albertsons.

Make sure to read Supermarket Shakeup for Millions of Safeway, Albertsons Shoppers for a full list of grocery stores being converted by state and city.

I am so glad that my store is not on the list. We have a lot of stores like that already, but currently I am just doing whatever I can to stretch my dollar and don’t need another expensive grocery store. I love that our Safeway doubles coupons and those $10/$50 coupons help me buy the months groceries for a lot less. Also, I have really gotten used to the J4U program and will hate to see it go.

Jennifer, what’s odd to me is that they will be changing the Safeways in Northern California to Albertsons. They use to have Albertsons in NorCal but they shut each and everyone of them down. Also, in NorCal they have allot more chain grocery stores that are particular just to NorCal and they got the Super Walmarts and the Super Targets, they are going to have a tough road to haul in Northern California.
