I Took an Extremely Hard Fall

Today, towards the end of my daily walk, I decided to get off of my usual walking trail and walk along a hilly part of the park and I tripped over a rock that was covered by leaves.  As I was falling, I stiffened my body and I slid into the fall with both of my hands out and trashing my left knee.

It was an extremely hard fall.  Both of the palms of my hands are scraped up and my left knee, I scraped the skin off about the size of a silver dollar.  When I was younger, I could have taken that fall, dust myself off and kept it pushing. It seems that once you hit 50’s, you don’t bounce back like you use to do. Needless to say, my hands, arms and knee are sore and hurting.

I took an Advil PM (it’s all I had in my stockpile, I must given the rest away) and I will probably be taking a long afternoon nap!

Oh no Roz, I hope you heal quickly and don’t wake up from your nap in worse pain.
My dh fell going up a curb at Albertsons yesterday, luckily he only hurt is hards trying to break the fall.

    Take care of yourself

Cheryl, I fell so hard, I’m sure the whole park heard a loud “thump” when I hit the ground.🤣 I woke up with back pain so I’ll be taking it easy for the next few days.

Hope you feel better, that’s so horrible. You do an incredible job in keeping your blogs up!

      Emily, thank you!

I am so sorry to hear that! You should have a bottle somewhere of the free CVS acetaminophen from Black Friday. If it makes you feel better… I was running up the steps to the front door, had the keys ready (clenched in the palm of my right hand) but then stumbled, and one of the pointy keys went right into my middle finger! Lots of blood but I put compression on it. No infection. Lucky I just had the tetanus booster last year. Get well soon and be careful out there!

Nick, thank you. The one thing that I really wanted was the free CVS acetaminophen but unfortunately everyone in San Diego wanted it too and it was out of stock at the stores. 🙁 Yikes, your fall sounds bad but I’m glad that had gotten a tetanus booster!

I bet you are feeling it tomorrow! Hope you have plenty of acetaminophen to take care of the pain. Heal quickly!

      Tammy, thank you.

I fell about when I was about your age and fractured my ankle. It was a wake-up call that my body wasn’t quite as young as my mind thought it was. Be safe and take care of yourself.

    • Ms. B. December 19, 2020, 09:34

Vera, I thought I had broken something as hard as I fell!🤣 I feel sore this morning and my back hurts.

  • tina December 19, 2020, 15:34

Sorry to hear of this misadventure… I feel how as we age, it’s so much easier to lose balance. Hoping the pain will go away quickly!

Tina, thank you! I was on the side of a hill and tripped over a rock and I was trying to catch myself before I roll down the hill. 🤣

Sorry to hear about your fall. I started to walk at the beginning of COVID at the end of March and tripped on uneven pavement and used my hands to break my fall. I thought I broke my arm and had to go to urgent care for an X-ray which I was quite nervous about since COVID had just started. No broken arm and it took about a month to heal. Now I look down when I walk 😊. Feel better soon.

Cheryl W., I’m glad you didn’t have a broken arm.

Oh my – tis the season for … falling!?! So sorry to hear about you….I fell three weeks ago, my feet got caught up in the bathroom rug as I was turning. Landed on my nose…. OMG….thought I broken it. It bled…and bled. By the next day, I was black & blue under both eyes, my eyelids and even upper lip inside my mouth. My nose hurt/throbbed so much. Just went to the dr on Tuesday, no break but slight fracture. I do believe we must all slow down….especially us 55-60-year-olds. Hope you recover quickly!

I went walking, this morning. My knee bothered a bit but that’s because I have a scab on it.

So sorry to hear this. I wish you a speedy recovery and healing. You should begin carrying a sturdy stick or cane with you. Serves several purposes; chase away aggressive dogs and/or humans, acts as a way to clear things from your walking path, lastly would be a good support if you twist your ankle, knee etc and you need a little help to limp your way to the car. I took a similar fall awhile back. Flat out on my belly, hands skidding on the asphalt in a shopping center parking lot. I took all sorts of otc meds for the pain, with them really not helping much. But I found meditation heeled me faster. Eyes closed focusing on the injured areas the pain immediately subsided. The bruising on my shin was the only evidence.

Thank you, Jill! I actually went walking this morning and the only thing that bothered me was my knee but that’s because I have a scab on it from my fall.
