Yes, I’ll Take That Early Retirement!!!

I am sooooo excited!!!  Yesterday morning, during the agony of our end of year preparations (I have only two more weeks of this stress), our training department decided to have a Retirement Class.  Of course, attending the class put me behind work wise but since it was about my future, I put the work to the side and I went to the class.

Going to the class, and confirmed for me is that I can take the early retirement with very little negative impact meaning that I will loose less than $200 a month, if I wait another seven years to retire!!!

Next year, in December 2018, I will have the right age and the right number of work years to retire early.  I have to wait until December because I cannot make more than $18, 000 in a calendar year so I will retire officially December 31, 2018 but that will be in the middle a pay period so I may have to push my retirement date by a week.

What’s going to let me retire early is that they will pay me a supplemental income until I reach social security age and this benefit is free where I work.  It’s a really an incentive to get older worker to retire early and bring younger workers to start their careers.

Mr. Man says he wants to wait another 12 work years so he will be toiling it away for awhile but he has already getting a retirement check from the military.

I am super excited about starting the next phase of my life – retirement!!!

Good for you, Roz! I am a little envious 🙂
I am definitely not qualifying for early retirement. That makes me nervous, because I am in the public works and not sure I will be able to keep up with the fast changes until I happily retire.

Tina, it’s only been in the last year that I have really thought about a retirement date after a bunch of coworkers went to a retirement class last December. A girl that is 2 weeks younger than I, was like we don’t have to wait until we are 67 y/o to retire. I don’t want to work a day longer then I have to work. 🙂
